surface etch
Horizontal surface retarder with membrane for perfect exposed aggregate flatwork

Surface Etch   Retarder is a ready to use, water based blue liquid which reveals aggregate in fresh placed concrete by delaying the surface set on flat surface, so that the mortar paste may be brushed and washed away from between the aggregate particles to produce an attractive exposed aggregate finish. Specially formulated to make it  easy and safe to use with  perfect results every time you pour flatwork,  unlike those traditional retarders.  We've formulated an impervious membrane into our horizontal retarder, this prevents surface dehydration allowing you to get a cleaner wash, No cement on stones, easy washing and Perfect results without the need to cover with plastic,  preventing damage. Surface Etch is available in 4 Liter, 20 Liter and 205 Liter pails

TECHNICAL DATA

Appearance - Blue liquid
Specific gravity - 0.98
Viscosity - Sprayable with normal spray equipment.
 Totally environmentally Friendly

Surface Etch  Retarder is Non staining, Non corrosive and  Non flammable. Safe and easy to use, with guaranteed results.  Surface Etch  will retard the set of the surface cement normally 12 - 48 hours when applied as directed. The setting time will be influenced by air temperature, cement type, content and slump. If the surface is not washed off within 24-48 hours the surface concrete will set and reach full strength. A trial run is recommended before general application to determine timing and the depth of etch required.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Surface Etch Agitate  Retarder thoroughly before use.  Place concrete in formwork or area of flatwork to be poured (3 parts cement, 4 parts sand, 6 parts aggregate by volume is a typical mix) screed flat and darby or bull float flatwork. Using a low pressure sprayer, spray affected areas once placed being sure not to miss any areas. Because Surface Etch has a membrane there is no need to cover with plastic unless weather dictates. Within 4 - 24 hours after application proceed to remove  retarded horizontal  layer of mortar with a stiff broom and garden hose water, leaving a clean exposed aggregate surface. If extremely small aggregate is used, it is important not to start the wash off too early, as bare spots may be created.
